• are friendly, and therefore have no guarding instinct and would happily greet a stranger coming into the house
 
  • are not make them a ' one man dog' and  would quite happily trot off with anyone on the other end of the lead.
 
  • are independent and therefore need firm and consistent handling from the start.
 
  • bark rarely but they can howl beautifully and often talk in a soft musical ' woo-woo-woooh !
 
  • enjoy a rough and tumble with fellow pack members even if it is over you on the sofa!
 
  • enjoy the company of other dogs in a family or group situation.
 
  • are not usually aggressive with other dogs but will normally take up a challenge if provoked.
 
  • are not a breed for those who take great pride in their rose beds or immaculate lawns. 
 
  • love digging holes (caves) and appear to indulge in this activity for no other reason than enjoyment.
 
  • are escapologists. a minimum of 6ft high dig proof fences are a must.
 
  • are hunters.  All small animals are fair game although they are sometimes able to accept a cat they have grown up with as a puppy.
 
  • should never ever be let off the lead given their romantic notion to run. 
 
  • have an impressive double coat that will shed itself twice a year. 
 
  • needs a lot of exercise and the best form of exercise it often be given is to allow it to pull some kind of rig or scooter.  (See working section).  If you attend any rally it will have become instantly obvious from the noisy excitement and the happy expressions on their faces that working and running in harness is a much anticipated treat!
